Why did you join the RMC GeoCORE team?

The example projects I heard about seemed really interesting, such as the 3D soil printer, and I liked that there is some work being done to consider the impacts of climate change. I also liked having the opportunity to go on a field trip to the Northwest Territories.

What do you like about the RMC?

I like that it is close to Queen’s, and I like the people that I work with. Also, at least from a civilian perspective, the atmosphere feels pretty laid back. We still do interesting and challenging work, just without the stress of tight deadlines or strict evaluations.

What is your research topic?

I mostly help design and build things for others to use in their research, but in general the work I do is based around modelling permafrost and how northern infrastructure will be impacted by climate change.

Any interesting results to share?

  • The 3D soil printer has been able to produce relative soil densities of approximately 42 to 99 percent, with a high degree of repeatability

  • Neoprene waders are more buoyant than one might expect, so be careful when traversing an uneven creek bed

What do you like to do for fun outside of school?

Outside of school, I mostly like to read and play video games
